Old Files describes the files that once were old Cole's Kingdom BBS.
These files can be as old as 1993 to give you an idea of what lies in there. If you're into old computer programs, or just want to get a look at the past, then this is a good place to check it out.
We are proud of this file area especially because it's hard to find a stash of this quality around anymore. Most consider older files obsolete, but a historian knows that nothing is obsolete. If it means anything, there are programs in there that I still use.
Upload is a verb, it means to transfer a file from your computer to another computer. To download is the opposite, it means to transfer a file from another computer to your own. These words are used only in reference to a network (the internet, a LAN, etc...). It would be incorrect to say that you uploaded some information to a floppy-disk.
Why do I want to upload?
You may want to upload for many reasons, or none at all.
A possible reason would be that you are an aspiring artist or programmer and would like a means to distribute your work. This is a way to do that. By uploading you are sharing with a global community. Say that out-loud, Global Community.
Warez
What is warez?
Warez is a popular name for pirated software. Software piracy is stealing, and therefore illegal. Many people make a living off creating software, please don't make their jobs more difficult by encouraging software piracy.
How can I tell if software is pirated?
I would ask you where you got the software.
If you say "I downloaded it from CNet," then chances are pretty good it's not pirated.
If you download it from some site with the words "Warez," "Pirated Software," ect... then chances are good it's pirated.
If you are unsure where you got it from you can always check the "read me" with a product. It is a text file that comes with most programs, generally has the name read me (or some version thereof), and will be found in the same folder as the program is located. Give this a good reading and if you can find no answer to your question, try locating the email of someone you can contact to ask. If you can't determine if your software is pirated, don't upload it.
Select File
How do I select a file?
Make sure you know the location of the file on your computer. I keep all my recently downloaded and the ones I want to upload in a familiar place, d:\download.
If you know the location of the file you wish to share, it's as simple as clicking the button, "Browse," and finding the file.
Once you have compleated this set, be sure to give the file its description.
Describe File
A simple description of a file should be put here.
An ideal description should say the following if the file is data:
What the reading program is
What the data contains
An ideal description should say the following if the file is a program:
What the program does
What the version number is
Two things you should note.
1) Don't use quotation marks, they will trunicate your description. If you are going to hyperlink, or describe, do it without quotes.
2) Don't dare leave the description blank, or with the text "If you leave this area blank your upload will be discarded." We will discard your upload and all both your time and mine will have been wasted.
Enter your name
This is optional. Operating System
What is ment by this question is what operating system reads this file. Possible choices are Windows, Linux, DOS, Mac, Other. Most program files will probably be for the Windows OS. If the file is a data file (like an image or mp3) then it is not for a specific operating system. Mark as Private
You have the option to mark a file as private, and only people with certain access may view and download them. This is optional.
